Apple will pay the increased VAT in the App Store for you

Apple has included the increased VAT in the cost of content sold in Russia – music, in-app purchases, movies, and so on. We received a receipt confirming the payment of the tax in our editorial office. The company registered for special tax accounting in Russia last year, but until January of this year, it included a VAT of 18% in the purchase price.

Starting from January 1st, Apple has already included a 20% VAT in the invoices, while the final cost of the content for the consumer has remained unchanged. This applies to both Apple Music subscriptions and iCloud storage plans. For example, in December, an Apple Music subscription cost 143.22 rubles without VAT, and in January 2019 it is already 140.83 rubles.

Apple has taken on the burden of paying the tax itself, rather than raising prices in the App Store and iTunes Store as previously expected. Whether the company has reduced payouts to developers remains unknown. Meanwhile, Google has not yet announced any price increases in response to the new law coming into effect.

Unfortunately, the prices of Apple devices in Russia have still changed as of January 1st. The price increase has affected all devices without exception. In most cases, the increase amounts to 2-3 thousand rubles, but for the top configurations of iMac Pro and Mac Pro, it exceeds 10 thousand rubles.
